Artists and creatives invited to help art up two new MyCiTi stations

The City of Cape Town is inviting artists, creative practitioners and residents with an artistic flair to submit design proposals for public artworks at the planned new MyCiTi stations in Hanover Park and Lentegeur. Submissions are now open and will close on Monday, 26 October 2026. The call is open to South African residents and artist collectives, with six artwork commissions available across the two stations.
MyCiTi upgrades along Govan Mbeki Road to improve traffic flow, road safety, and mitigate flooding

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate is pleased to confirm that major rehabilitation work is about to commence along Govan Mbeki Road (M9) that will ensure improved road conditions and general road safety, as well as improved stormwater drainage to reduce the risk of flooding, new streetlights, and upgraded traffic signal systems to assist with traffic flow. This work is related to the roll-out of the second phase of the MyCiTi bus service to connect commuters from Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Wynberg and Claremont
Mitchells Plain residents advised of nightworks along AZ Berman Drive as MyCiTi Phase 2A project progresses

The City of Cape Town's Urban Mobility Directorate is continuing with transport infrastructure upgrades along AZ Berman Drive in Mitchells Plain as part of the MyCiTi Phase 2A project. Night time construction work along AZ Berman Drive, between Nduli Street and Wespoort Drive, will commence on Monday, 14 September 2026 and will continue until 14 December 2026, if all goes according to plan.

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas recently went out to see the progress of the refurbishment of one of the buses serving the Atlantis route as well as the bus stops currently being installed in Atlantis and surrounding areas.

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate is pleased to announce that the construction of the new MyCiTi bus stations in Hanover Park and Mitchells Plain is set to commence in the first week of September 2026, if all goes as planned. This project forms part of the MyCiTi bus service expansion that will connect Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Claremont and Wynberg.
City rolls out innovative bus traffic signal system along Blaauwberg Road

The City’s Mobility Directorate is expanding its innovative system of bus traffic signals along Blaauwberg Road in Table View following a successful pilot of these MyCiTi bus traffic signals in May 2022. The City will be installing the bus signals on 26 and 27 May 2026, and if all goes as planned, the signals will be live from 28 May 2026.
MyCiTi fares may increase from July due to high diesel price

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate wants to give MyCiTi commuters as much notice as possible of an upcoming fare increase so that households can budget ahead. It is likely that the MyCiTi fares will increase from July 2026 because of the sustained high diesel price. The City has protected MyCiTi commuters from the fuel price increases since March this year and will also do so in June. However, should the diesel price increase at the level we have seen over the past two months, a MyCiTi fare increase will be unavoidable.
